Concept and Sonic Aesthetics
This week we had a class to get feedback from our pairs and coordinator, Diego.
I just had started the remix in time with my presented timeline, so I just showed to the class what I had done. I focused on the vocals first as I believed to be the main melody in the song ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’ by Domenico Modugno. I added some reverb and delay to give it a more modern sound and make it more cohesive to the genre I am planning to achieve, that in this case I believe it to be House. I was just starting to try using format shifting as i read in the article : ‘This technique works really well right before a drop. You can also chop up the vocal in the drop to make it a little more groovy.’ but i did not manage to complete that and i still have to work on it. Overall I got a useful feedback from the class as my colleague Denie told me he could visualise what I was trying to achieve with the vocals. As well from my tutor, Diego who asked me more questions related to the project. After the feed back for each one we had to watch the video of the first presentation we did for this class, and to give an auto critique on our presenting skills and presentation in general. I thought my presentation was good in general and i could have gone a bit deeper into some parts if it, such as details about the genres and styles of the tracks. Afterwards seeing the assessment feedback, i realised i could add even more like :’It would have been great to have a quick reflection on the Intellectual Property part of proposing a remix album.’, concept that i just cited in the end as the tracks are remix, but i didn’t think about adding a bit more detail to that.
Also :’ Central to our understanding of the project is the contemporary twist you are aiming to apply to older tracks, but it isn’t completely clear what this twist is.’, i didn’t really specified the twist, i just defined it as modern but i could have added some small detail. Overall i’m proud about my presentation and i hope to get even better with the next one that is in January. In the meanwhile i’m keeping on with the work on the remixes.
